New public transports routes to South Street campus

Published: 27th May 2025

We are pleased to share some significant updates from the Public Transport Authority (Transperth) that will make our campus more connected and help us contribute to our sustainability goals and commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Starting mid-2025, the Thornlie-Cockburn Link will connect the Mandurah and Armadale Lines. This development is a game-changer for our public transport network, making commuting more efficient and environmentally friendly.
To make sure everything runs smoothly with the new train stations and to accommodate anticipated shifts in passenger travel patterns, Transperth has developed a new bus route network. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Existing routes: Routes 204, 205, 206, and 207 will terminate at Murdoch Station. Circle routes 998 and 999 will remain unchanged, with only minor time adjustments.

  • New routes: Routes 206, 207, and 208 from the Thornlie/Cockburn Network will service Murdoch University. Route 209 will now service Murdoch TAFE, with passengers transferring from Murdoch Station to Murdoch University using routes 206, 207, 208, 998, and 999.

While some students traveling along the Maddington/Warton Road route (204) may experience a slight inconvenience, the overall service level to the University remains robust and even marginally increased.

Why embrace public transport?

Embracing public transport can have a number of benefits for you, and the planet:

  • Environmental impact: By choosing public transport, you are directly helping us reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lowering our collective carbon footprint. This is a crucial step in our sustainability strategy and our commitment to a greener future.

  • Efficiency and convenience: The new Thornlie-Cockburn Link and the updated bus routes are designed to make your commute smoother and more efficient. With frequent services and better connectivity, public transport is a convenient option for everyone.

  • Community and health benefits: Using public transport reduces traffic congestion, leading to cleaner air and a healthier environment. It also fosters a sense of community, as we share our journeys and support sustainable practices together.

Transperth is committed to providing adequate notice of these changes, with implementation targeted for mid-June 2025. We encourage all students to refer to the Transperth website for detailed service changes.
