Support for students affected by global conflict

Published: 1st July 2025

Murdoch is a global community, and we know that the recent escalation of world events including the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine is affecting many of you. If you're feeling overwhelmed, worried, or directly impacted in any way, please know that you're not alone, and that support is available.

Middle East 630x380

Whether you need someone to talk to, a safe space to rest and reset, or guidance on what to do next, there are a range of services here to support you.

Counselling Service

The University Counselling Service offers free, confidential support with a wide range of personal, psychological and study-related issues. The team provides a safe and supportive space where you can share your worries and explore ways to resolve them. Appointments can be booked by calling (08) 9360 1227 or visiting the office in building 440 (green fronted area facing Bush Court).

Medical Service

Another option available to you is the Medical Service, located under the Tavern. You can speak confidentially to a doctor or one of the nurses and they can offer support and help link you to the right services. The Medical Service bills directly to Medicare and OSHC providers, so there are no costs for students for general consultations.

The Den

If you are unsure of where to seek help or just need to take some time out, you can visit The Den. It’s open every Monday to Friday in the Base (430.1.001) and Winter Garden (underneath the Student Hub) during semester weeks and you can drop in anytime from 10am-2pm and enjoy our daily themed offerings, which includes the International Café on Wednesdays. During the semester break, it is open Wednesdays only for International Cafe between 11am and 1pm. Each day The Den is supported by a team of students trained to help their peers and we also have other staff on hand for more urgent needs.

External Support for International Students

If you would like to seek support outside of Murdoch University, Study Perth provides a range of supports to international students. This includes access to Sonder, which provides counselling and other support in multiple languages. You can find out more about this here.

Academic and Enrolment Support

Finally, if you need any academic or enrolment support, our myMurdoch Advice team is available in Student Central and the Library at our Murdoch (South Street) campus, and at our Mandurah campus (Building 100) between 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Please reach out if you need support — we’re here for you.

Yours sincerely,
