We know that wellbeing is essential to your success, and thanks to your feedback through consultations and surveys, we’ve created a plan that reflects what matters most to students.
The Student Wellbeing Strategic Plan aims to achieve three outcomes that came across strongly in the student consultations: inclusive and accessible services, a strong sense of belonging, and student voice in shaping their experience.
We want to ensure students are supported during and after wellbeing challenges, as well as helping prevent stress, distress and ill-health. We’re planning to do this, through initiatives and services that are visible, culturally responsive, and co-designed with students.
Here’s what’s already happening:
Strengthening Existing Services– to The Den drop-in space, we’re building on what works
- We’ve recently introduced the Afterhours Wellbeing Line (ph1300 806 852) extending your access to specialist wellbeing support to 24/7.
- We’ve introduced a specialised counsellor for First Nations Students
- We’re developing and partnering with organisations to run new workshops at The Den on topics students want, like job searches and résumé writing, sustainability, and social groups.
Prioritising health and wellbeing across campus, including achieving Platinum Status as a FISU Healthy Campus
- We’re increasing recreational and leisure activities for students like the ‘Get Wild Student Games’
- We’re collaborating with other on-campus supports, like MU Counselling Service and the MU Active Gym for more holistic support and wellbeing for student needs
- We’re dedicating more resources and education on campus for health and wellbeing, like increased access to filtered water on campus and programs like our ‘Learn to cycle’
Supporting staff who support you
- We’re equipping staff with tools and training to better assist students in distress.
- We’re using student feedback and data (like the annual Student Experience Survey) to work with Schools to better understand and respond to student wellbeing needs.
Creating change that is both by the students and for the students
This plan is about creating a connected, caring university community where wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility—and where every student can thrive.
