From 27 September to 3 October, 33 Murdoch student-athletes competed across basketball, mixed netball and kendo, proudly representing the University and building the team spirit that will carry us into next year’s home-ground competition.

The athletes represented a wide range of academic disciplines, from veterinary and agricultural science to criminology, law, nursing and environmental science, showcasing Murdoch’s diversity and community spirit.
Jamie Ball, Sports and Recreation Manager at Murdoch Active, reflected on the significance of this phase in shaping what’s to come.

Be part of Team Murdoch for 2026
Next year, Perth will host the UniSport Nationals from 26 September to 3 October 2026, spanning premier venues and featuring UniFest, a celebration of sport, culture and student life.
Participation is set to expand in 2026, with new representative teams forming across multiple sports including but not limited to AFL 9’s, Badminton, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, Futsal, Hockey, Table Tennis, and Tennis.

Murdoch fielded nine men and nine women in basketball, ten students in mixed netball, and five in kendo. The netball team was newly formed for 2025, with most participants competing for the first time.
The kendo team was coached by Murdoch alumnus and former UniSport Nationals champion Mitch Askew.
The women’s basketball team entered Nationals fresh off a gold medal performance at the ECU Invitational, where they competed against WA universities, WA Police Force and Australian Defence Force.
