Celebrate Pride Month with Murdoch University in 2025

Published: 23rd October 2025

Every November, Murdoch University celebrates Pride Month as a mark of respect to the ‘89ers’ – a group of 300 LGBTIQA+ activists who marched on Western Australia’s Parliament House in 1989 to call for the decriminalisation of homosexuality.

Pride2025

November officially became Perth’s Pride Month in the years following this landmark human rights reform, and has remained a month to celebrate LGBTIQA+ community, celebrating the work of the past and looking forward to a more inclusive future.

Pride Month is a time of reflection, celebration, and advocacy that serves as a reminder of the progress made and the challenges that remain. By observing and celebrating Pride Month, we highlight the diversity of the LGBTIQA+ community and promote a more inclusive society, at Murdoch and beyond, where everyone can have pride in their identity.

Join us in the Pride Parade

We’re thrilled to yet again be taking part in the Northbridge Pride Parade on Saturday, 29 November – one of the most visible events in the Pride Month calendar!

We are inviting all Murdoch students, staff and alumni to proudly fly their flags as the parade winds its way along Northbridge’s streets. Spaces are limited, so get in quick. Those who attend will receive a Murdoch Pride shirt to wear on the night.

Registrations will be open until Monday, 10 November. More information is provided on the registration form and an official briefing will happen before the event.

Drag Trivia at The Tav

Join us on Tuesday, 4 November from 5pm to test your knowledge with local drag quiz masters, Fayrocious and Donna Kebab! Form a team of up to 6, or rock up on the day and make some new friends. Prizes, specials and a raffle supporting the WestPride Archive’s history preserving activities await! Registrations essential.

Hear from LGBTIQA+ leaders for a digital Fireside Chat

On Wednesday, 5 November from 11am-12pm, hear from Pride in Diversity’s Executive of the Year, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Associate Professor Rebecca Bennett and LGBTIQA+ Advisory Group Chair Mx Em Readman for a discussion about workplace inclusion. Register for online attendance here.

Learn how to Archive with the WestPride Archives

Murdoch University houses the most comprehensive collection of LGBTIQA+ History in Western Australia, having recently signed a 10-year agreement with the WestPride Archives to continue their important work. After a sell-out archiving session in May, we return for another weekend session, looking at the collections of some prominent LGBTIQA+ men. On Saturday, 22 November, all are welcome for a training session on cataloguing archival items, and then we will put it to the test by working to archive and digitise another important collection. Lunch provided, registrations essential.

Prepare for Pride at The Den

Head on down to the Den on Wednesday, 19 November from 11am-1pm for snacks and plenty of activities to get ready for Pride festivities. Make a bracelet, draw your flag, or bedazzle something you already own!

Visit us at Pride WA Fair Day

Every year we love to get on down to Fair Day and connect with the LGBITQA+ community, and update them about what we’ve got going on at Murdoch University. Swing by for some exclusive merch, to chat to our Pride team, and snap a photo at our brand new pride-themed photo wall. We’ll be there on Sunday, 23 November from 10am-6pm.

Keep an eye out for more stories, videos and activations on campus during the month of November, and happy pride!
