Blue-Economy Mobility Project - Project Hiu

A few spots are still available for the Blue-Economy Mobility Project – Project Hiu,  with a $4,000 NCP Mobility Grant available to eligible students.

Are you an undergraduate student interested in contributing to the development of a sustainable future for sharks and local community members in Indonesia, while gaining credit towards your degree?

Murdoch University, University of Mataram, and Project Hiu invite you to express your interest in this exciting mobility project during this Summer – November/December 2026.

  • 3 credit point BUS3451 - Professional Business Project unit with Murdoch Business School
  • Duration: 10-week unit with a 4-week immersion in Indonesia
  • Travel Dates: 23 November - 20 December 2026 (subject to change and flight availability). Including: 18 nights Universitas Mataram (UNRAM), Lombok. 10 nights Kuta Lombok with day trips to Maringkik Island which is located 1.2km (10 - 15-minute boat ride) from Lombok
  • Funding: $4000 New Colombo Plan Mobility grants available to cover flights, accommodation and other program expenses.

Supported by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant Program, Murdoch University and Project Hiu have teamed up to offer a unique 3 credit point general elective unit for Murdoch University Undergraduate Students. 

What can you expect?                      

Guided and supported by Murdoch academic Dr David Zhang and in collaboration with project partners Universitas Mataram (UNRAM) and Project Hiu, students will work in teams to design and contribute solutions to an identified real need, opportunity or problem.

Real-world, authentic learning

  • set to inspire students and provide experiences to aid personal development, global citizenship skills and work readiness
  • foster better understanding of inter-disciplinarity and diversity

International Engagement with:

  • Project partner Project Hiu and the crew
  • Mataram University staff and students
  • Industry and academic experts
  • Indonesia community

Who is this for:

Undergraduate students from any discipline area are welcome!

The project is funded by the Australian Federal Government. To be eligible for the $4000 Grant funding you’ll need to:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be enrolled in a Murdoch University undergraduate degree
  • Have completed at least 12 credit points
  • Have a General Elective left in your degree, which counts towards the core requirements of your course. Please note that you are unable to take part in this project, if it is in addition to your core requirements.

Conditions may apply if you have received a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant in the past. Please contact studyabroad@murdoch.edu.au if you have questions around your eligibility.

Students who do not satisfy eligibility for NCP funding, including International students, are welcome to apply as self-funded applicants.

Cost:

  • Eligible students will receive a $4000 scholarship from the NCP Mobility grant to cover majority of costs associated with the program. Further details will be provided at time of application.
  • Students selected to participate will be enrolled in BUS3451. The unit cost can be deferred onto HECS as per normal.
