The Government has also announced that proof of vaccination for those aged 16 and older is required for all hospitality venues including restaurants, cafes and taverns and gyms and fitness centres. Accordingly, you are required to show proof of vaccination if entering the Student Hub, Murdoch Tavern, Sir Walters Café and the Murdoch University Gym, among other such venues.

People Protocols

Masks

When mandated by the government, you are required to wear a face mask unless you are exempt based on the reasons supplied by WA Health

Physical distancing

We are all required to observe the Federal and State Government’s guidelines in relation to physical distancing, by staying 1.5m apart from others where possible.

Hygiene

The most important thing we can all do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is observe proper handwashing and cough and sneeze hygiene.

Remember to wash your hands with soap and water regularly, for at least 20 seconds. You should also use the hand sanitiser stations on campus where available. Always cough or sneeze into your arm or a tissue and put the tissue in the bin straight away. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds afterwards.

Personal health

If you are unwell, don’t come to campus. You can still see a doctor via a telephone or telehealth (video) consult; your doctor will advise if you need a physical assessment, arrange any scripts and manage your health care remotely. Stay home, and make sure you make arrangements to catch up on your studies with your tutor or classmates.

Murdoch University Health’s Medical and Counselling services remain open on-campus to support your physical and mental wellbeing. We understand the importance of infection control and have steps in place to ensure our patients remain safe.

If you have a pre-existing health condition, please contact Access and Inclusion at access@murdoch.edu.au for additional support relating to a disability or health condition or for access to accessibility services.

Reporting

Should you test positive for COVID-19, it is important you let your Unit Coordinator know as soon as possible and complete the COVID-19 Case Report Form – you will need to enter your student ID and password to access this form online.

Behaviour

We understand the start to this year has been strange, and that it’s a big adjustment returning to campus. Please remember to be kind, respectful and supportive of your fellow students, as well as being mindful of others needs to maintain physical distancing.

The Murdoch Safe app provides access to a range of support services and information about reporting any incidents of harassment or discrimination that you experience or witness.

Interacting with security staff

For the safety of our whole community, our security staff will be monitoring whether you are observing physical distancing measures. Make sure they don’t need to remind you of your obligations.

Place Protocols

Download the ServiceWA app

The State Government has launched COVID-19 safety app, ServiceWA, which will eventually replace the SafeWA app. ServiceWA enables you to show proof of vaccination and check in at businesses and venues - all in one convenient place. You can download this from the Apple App Store or Android.

Entering and exiting

In line with the WA Health Department’s COVID-19 contact tracing, everybody visiting or occupying the venues listed at the top of this article are required to scan the sign-posted venue QR code upon entry using the SafeWA and ServiceWA apps.

Additionally, when entering and leaving buildings, please leave space for people to come and go, and be polite and smile at your fellow students as you go about the place. Everyone loves a smile :)

Using lifts

Although there are not a lot of lifts on our campuses, to maintain 1.5 metres between people, we ask that only one person use each lift at a time.

Queueing

We expect you to be polite, be patient, and stand 1.5 metres apart or in areas allocated for you to stand.

Cleaning

The University has boosted its cleaning regime in high-traffic areas right around the campus and are using hospital grade disinfectant. If you see an area for improvement, please let us know via fm.helpdesk@murdoch.edu.au

Library

The rules for the library remain as they have always been – and it remains a great place to come together and collaborate and study. The only change is that you must observe distancing requirements.

Computer labs

Within computer labs it is important you wipe down all surfaces after you have used them. Additional cleaning supplies are on hand or ask a staff member if you need help.

Campus services and amenities

The student portal and our social channels are being updated regularly with information about what is open and when.

Specialised spaces: laboratories, studios, clinics, etc.

Every class held in a lab, studio or clinic is different and has specific arrangements. It’s important you adhere to the distancing and hygiene requirements in these areas, read any signage displayed on the rooms regarding occupancy, and listen to instructions from Murdoch staff about how you use the space.
