We're recruiting Volunteer Buddies for Tokyo City University Students!

Published: 15th January 2025

Are you interested in being part of a fun and rewarding program assisting Japanese students from Tokyo City University (TCU) who are participating in the Tokyo-Australia Program (TAP) at Murdoch University? We are currently recruiting Murdoch students to volunteer as buddies!

TCU TAP Buddy Volunteer Program 630x380

In the third week of February, we will welcome 90 TCU students to Murdoch as part of the TAP. These students will live at Murdoch Village and attend classes for 14 weeks on campus, including 7 weeks of intensive English followed by 6 weeks of liberal arts study.

What does a Volunteer Buddy do?

As a TCU Volunteer Buddy, you will:

  • Be matched up with a small group of 3-5 TCU students and assist them in navigating both Murdoch University and life in Perth.
  • Help support the TCU students upon their arrival on the 18th & 19th of February.
  • Get to meet and connect with, not only students from TCU, but a lot of other Murdoch students participating in the Buddy Program.
  • Have opportunities to develop and participate in fun activities that encourage interaction and exploration of life in Australia.

What do I need to do to become a Volunteer Buddy?

As a TCU Volunteer Buddy, you will:

  • Need to participate in a two-hour training session before the TCU students arrive at Murdoch.
  • Be encouraged to participate in activities over the TCU students orientation Feb 20-21.
  • Need to register by 3 February 2025 to sign up as a Buddy.

What will I gain from this opportunity?

On a professional level, as a TCU Volunteer Buddy you will have an opportunity to develop:

  • Skills that are valuable for future employment, including team building, planning, organisation and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cultural awareness and competence.

Additionally, you may be eligible to have your hours recorded on your MU Volunteering and Employment Transcript.
